SHORTLIST COFFEEThe home coffee equipment guide

How we choose

Shortlist Coffee helps you narrow a crowded market down to a few home espresso machines and grinders that fit your budget, your counter and how much effort you want to put in.

Specs

Specifications come from the maker's own product page or user manual, and we note the date we checked. When a maker doesn't publish a figure or doesn't sell direct in the US (for example the DF54 and the Eureka Mignon), we use a US retailer's listing and say so on the page. When we can't find a figure from either, we leave it blank. We don't estimate numbers.

Strengths and drawbacks

We read independent reviews from publications and specialist coffee sites. A point appears as a strength or a drawback only when at least two independent reviews make it. Points raised by a single reviewer are labeled that way. Every point links to its sources, and we write everything in our own words.

What we don't do

We don't own or test the machines we cover, and we never write as if we had. We don't accept payment from brands to include or rank products. When a page draws on our editor's own past ownership of a machine, it is labeled that way.

How we're paid

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the store may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. Commission rates never decide which products make a shortlist or the order they appear in. See our affiliate disclosure.
